Window vinyls - Fitting
Fitting window graphics is a specialised job, but if you want to have a go yourself, we can offer you several tips:
- Thoroughly clean the window upon which the graphic is to be fitted.
- Your window vinyl will come to you mounted on what we call 'application tape'.
- For most applications choose to apply using a 'wet application' method. You will need a suitable water spray canister and some kind of squeegee.
- Add a few drops of washing up liquid to your water mix. This will make the graphic more moveable, if required.
- Position the graphic in the desired position and tab to hold position with masking tape.
- If your window graphic is frosted or clear, mark a baseline or some identifiable points on the other side of the window with removeable marker pen or chinagraph pencil, to enable the graphic to be positioned where you have marked.
- Lightly spray the window with your water mix, turn the graphic over and stick the face of the vinyl (still with backing on) onto the window.
- Remove the backing sheet and spray with water 'as you go'.
- Remove the graphic and respray the window with water.
- Turn the graphic round, position in place using the markers. The graphic should slide due to the water on the window surface.
- Squeegee the excess water whilst flattening the graphic in position and leave to dry.
NOTE: This is a specialised field and these fitting instructions should be considered as tips only. Different fitters will have different methods for achieving the desired results.
